Pietà

Michelangelo’s Pietà shows the Virgin Mary holding the lifeless body of Jesus after his crucifixion. Carved from a single block of marble between 1498 and 1499, it is considered a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture for its delicate detail and spiritual emotion. It resides in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
